Fair Trade Keeps Ancient Culture Alive

chonayDamaris Chonay (15 years old) is on her way to her new secondary school, moving closer to her dream of becoming a doctor, in order to bring medical care to her community where there is none.  Damaris lives in a Mayan agricultural community in Guatemala where her family resides in a small cement home with dirt floors.

Basket weaving keeps Mayan women connected to their ancestors, and within the sacred and cultural Mayan universe.  You can purchase baskets made from pine needles, along with a large selection of exquisite jewelry, collectibles, wood items, chocolate and food items, clothing and toys from 38 different countries in our Fair Trade Shop at Stone Presbyterian Church, 8 So. Park Row, Clinton.

Purchasing fair trade ensures artisans and small farmers fair wages and healthy working conditions, providing dignity, sustainable development and hope for marginalized people.  Our hours are 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM every Thursday, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM second Saturdays, and on Saturday, February 10th, 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM.
